Rest Position - 1st Grade

Mrs. Lechner's 1st grade friends are doing a great job of showing rest position!

Conducting in 2

I couldn't help but snap this video when I saw how well 2nd grade students were using their "batons" (aka chopsticks) to conduct in meter of 2.

"Rockin' Robin"

Here's how "Rockin' Robin" turned out.  This was so much fun.  It's even more fun knowing that the same things that I did as a child can still be enjoyed today.  I was inspired to teach this after watching a youtube video of some grown ups having fun with it.  We used it as an example of meter in 2.  These guys were awesome!!!

Voice Choice

KG students learned about the four different voices today.  Here is the class "King" using his singing voice as they lined up to leave.

What's the Matter with Meter?

There's absolutely nothing wrong with meter :-)  As a matter of fact, meter has been the focus of our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade lessons.  Meter is how we organize beats into measures.  Here are a few pictures from classes this week:

These 5th grade Estuary students are working on a hand-clapping game to the classic tune "Rockin' Robin".  This song is in a meter of 2.

These 4th Grade Estuary students are moving to show meter in 2, 3, and 4.  They are experiencing the strong beats on the foot with the shoe and the weak beats on the foot with the sock.

These 3rd Grade Estuary students start class with a song in the meter of 2, "Up the Ladder."  In this song, they get to say their names (to the beat) and add movement of their choice.
